Costa Rica:
Map of Northwest
Costa Rica.
The Country
Costa Rica is located at 10°
north latitude and 85° west
longitude. It is bordered by
Nicaragua to the north,
Panama to the south, the
Pacific Ocean to the west
and the Caribbean Sea to the
east.
The country is approximately
the size of West Virginia
and is very mountainous. The
21 national parks and
reserves constitute an
impressive 25% of the
country and offer a
breathtaking variety of
flora and fauna.
In Costa Rica there is no
shortage of natural
adventures. Activities such
as whitewater rafting,
kayaking and surfing, along
with horseback riding,
nature hikes and bird
watching can be enjoyed.
Don't forget mountain
biking, sailing, scuba
diving and of course fishing
on both the Pacific and
Caribbean coasts.
Planning A Trip
To Costa
Rica
Although the country is
small, distances are
deceiving because of the
mountainous terrain and
generally poor road
conditions. A good rule of
thumb is to spend a minimum
of two nights anywhere you
go. Travelers should allow
for one full day without
driving in order to explore
the area or take a tour.
"Ticos"
Costa Rica has been a
peaceful democratic country
since 1821. The people are
Spanish speaking although
English is spoken along the
Caribbean coastline. The
people affectionately call
themselves "Ticos". Ticos
are especially friendly and
helpful to visitors. They
are proud of their country
and eager to share their
culture and make new
friends.
Traveling Safely
Exercise the same
precautions in Costa Rica as
you would elsewhere in the
world. Remember that rental
cars are particularly
targeted. Never leave
luggage unattended in a
rental car, even if it is in
the trunk. Carry your
passport separate from your
wallet and your traveler's
check numbers separately
from your checks. Passport
replacements can only be
obtained in San José.

We were
there for a reason.

question you need answered.
When is
the best time to come fishing in
Costa Rica?
The Gamefisher2 resides in an area
of the world known as the
inter-tropical conversion zone .
What this means is that we live and
fish in the area where the trade
winds meet with the
doldrums.
Characteristic of this area is that
the seasons are very loosely defined. Basically it rains for half the
year and the other half it does not.
This leaves the migration of the
fish to be governed by the ocean
temperatures and of course the ocean
currents , which have been for some
years now erratic at best.
Although
every month of the year here is
capable of hosting spectacular
fishing , they all can have slow
periods as well . There are some
basic patterns that have been
evident throughout the years such as
better sail-fishing from Puerto
Carillo and south during the months
of Jan. ,Feb , March and April and
later in the year the bite generally
moves north to the Gulf of Pappagallo area for the months of
May, June, July and August. But
some years the fish move in these
areas early and other years the move
in late. So far I have not been
able to predict the bite, which
leaves my answer to the $1,000,000
question as being simply "Come and
fish when YOU CAN and we guarantee
that we will fish our hearts out for
you” and we’ll have a good time
doing so!"

It is not necessary to rent a car if
